Who is Cookie Monster?

Cookie Monster is a blue Muppet character on the long-running PBS / HBO children's television show Sesame Street. The origin of Cookie Monster

Cookie Monster was created by Jim Henson, the legendary puppeteer and creator of the Muppets. According to the book Jim Henson's Designs and Doodles, Cookie Monster was originally one of three monsters that ate cookies and appeared in a General Foods commercial that featured three crunchy snack foods: Wheels, Crowns and Flutes. Each snack was represented by a different monster. The Wheel-Stealer was a short, fuzzy monster with wonky eyes and sharply pointed teeth. The Flute-Snatcher was a speed demon with a long, sharp nose and windblown hair. The Crown-Grabber was a hulk of a monster with a Boris Karloff accent and teeth that resembled giant knitting needles.

These monsters had insatiable appetites for the snack foods they were named after. Each time the Muppet narrator, a human-looking fellow, fixes himself a tray of Wheels, Flutes and Crowns, they disappear before he can eat them. One by one, the monsters sneak in and zoom away with the snacks. Frustrated and peckish, the narrator warns viewers that these pesky monsters could be disguised as someone in your own home, at which point the monsters briefly turn into people and then dissolve back to monsters again.

As it turns out, these commercials were never aired but all three monsters had a future in the Muppet cast. The Crown-Grabber was used in a sketch on The Ed Sullivan Show, in which he ruins a girl's beautiful day. The Flute-Snatcher became Snuffleupagus, Big Bird's imaginary friend. And the Wheel-Stealer became Cookie Monster, who soon found his true calling: eating cookies.

The types of cookies Cookie Monster likes

Cookie Monster likes all kinds of cookies equally. He does not discriminate or judge any cookie based on its appearance or taste. He loves every cookie for what it is: a delicious treat that makes him happy. However, he does have some preferences when it comes to choosing which cookie to eat first. Here are some of the factors that influence his decision:

  • The number of cookies: Cookie Monster prefers to eat more cookies than fewer cookies. He likes to have a big pile of cookies in front of him so he can eat as many as he wants.

  • The size of the cookie: Cookie Monster prefers to eat bigger cookies than smaller cookies. He likes to have a big bite of cookie in his mouth so he can enjoy the flavor and texture.

  • The shape of the cookie: Cookie Monster prefers to eat round cookies than square or other shaped cookies. He likes to have a smooth edge of cookie in his hand so he can hold it easily.

  • The color of the cookie: Cookie Monster prefers to eat brown or tan colored cookies than other colored cookies. He likes to have a natural looking cookie that matches his fur color.

  • The flavor of the cookie: Cookie Monster prefers to eat chocolate chip flavored cookies than other flavored cookies. He likes to have a sweet and rich taste of chocolate in his cookie.

Of course, these preferences are not strict rules for Cookie Monster. He will eat any cookie that he sees or smells or hears about. He will not refuse any cookie that someone offers him or that he finds lying around. He will not waste any cookie that he drops or breaks or spills on the floor. He will not share any cookie that he has in his possession or that he claims as his own.

The healthy eating habits of Cookie Monster

Cookie Monster may love to eat cookies all the time, but he also knows that cookies are a "sometimes food". He understands that eating too many cookies can be bad for his health and his teeth. He also knows that there are other foods that are good for him and that he should eat more often. These foods are called "anytime foods" and they include fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein. Cookie Monster has learned to eat a balanced diet that includes both cookies and other foods. He has also learned to enjoy the taste and variety of different foods.

Cookie Monster has been taught by his friends on Sesame Street about the importance of healthy eating habits. He has learned from Elmo how to make a fruit salad, from Abby how to make a vegetable soup, from Zoe how to mak
